Project Manager Engineering
At Damen Cargo Vessels, we design, build, and sell modern cargo ships. Our more than 200 multipurpose cargo vessels have been delivered worldwide and continue to be constantly improved to maximize fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and functionality. Due to the growing demand for our ships, Cargo Vessels is expanding. The position is executable at the Gorinchem location as well as at our Drachten location.
The role
As a Project Manager Engineering, you will lead a team of approximately 10 engineers with various disciplines responsible for basic and detailed engineering. Additionally, you also coordinate the basic and detailed engineering work that we outsource to engineering firms.
The Project Manager Engineering is responsible for managing shipbuilding projects from concept to delivery. Responsibilities include coordinating with various teams to ensure project milestones are met, effectively managing budgets and resources, and ensuring compliance with all industry regulations and standards.
Accountabilities
As Project Manager Engineering:
- You take responsibility for the assigned project to achieve targeted results in terms of planning, quality, and costs;
- You manage all project elements. This includes, among other things:
- Defining boundaries, planning, monitoring, and reporting on progress, (technical) project decisions, guiding engineers and/or suppliers in the project team;
- Coordinating the flow of information from various stakeholders within the project, across the different departments/locations;
- Advising and aligning with the Project Manager on all related technical issues;
- Ensuring that all issues are addressed and that project deadlines are met;
- Ensuring compliance with applicable rules and physical/data interfaces with suppliers;
- Organizing and/or participating in project integration reviews;
- Coordinating reviews of documents, such as planning (updates), progress reports, production reports, etc.;
- Participating in tests and trials, such as HIL tests, HAT, and SAT.
Skills and experience
Your technical skills are rooted in a keen sense of quality awareness and a practical approach. You are proactive and creative, with a commitment to precision in your work. Additionally, you possess the following attributes:
- A bachelor’s degree in Maritime Engineering/naval architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical study;
- More than 10 years of experience in the design and engineering of (complex) shipbuilding or offshore projects;
- Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems under pressure;
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English;
- Willingness to travel.
